Muse
By M. F. B. Porter
Muse,
Oh dear, Muse
What have you to say?
I need your sweet words
Yesterday and today
You whisper your thoughts
So quietly in my ear
That some days I'm unsure
If I can even still hear
Other days are different
Quite different you see
Some days you scream
And keep screaming
At me
And while I appreciate
The inspiration you heap
Sometimes I wish you would stop
And just let me sleep
At which point you somberly
Gather your things to depart
Leaving no wonderful music left
Singing to my heart
I waste away in your absence
Then swear to the sky
That if you should return
I'd not let you pass me by
Muse,
Oh dear, Muse
What have you to say?
I need your sweet words
Yesterday and today.
