First Sight

First Sight
M.  F.  B.  Porter

We just met one night
pumpkins on the porch
lanterns
flickering

I wore a black satin dress,
you wore a funny tie
awkward
new

A movie played, colorful
candy in a bowl
tricks,
treats

Everyone disappeared
around us,
faded
out

They all just shuffled
into the background,
muted
noise

We only needed
each other;
enveloped
entwined

Months passed by but
we stayed the same
happy
true.
